King High band members selected to perform at Carnegie Hall !
Nearly 200 band members from King High School in
Hillsborough County are preparing for an opportunity of a lifetime.
Their performance earned two spots at Carnegie Hall in New York City next year.
King High School's wind ensemble and symphony orchestra were selected to be part of the Carnegie Hall performance series.
The Director of Bands applied for the spots in November.
"I wanted to go for it," said Director of Bands Dakeyan Graham
"I said I know this is something big and I'm sure there are many different applicants
but I said hey we're going to pray for favor, we're going to put it out there."
Band members were surprised to be picked to perform on such a prestigious stage.
"I honestly thought it was a joke," said band member Joshua Glow.
"Probably going to be one of the best experiences of my life."
"I would just consider it an honor just to sit in the seats to watch a performance,
to actually be able to perform there is one of the utmost honors given," said band member Nolan Cooley.
The band has already started to raise money for the trip.
They'll perform at Carnegie Hall next April.
